The project seeks to develop a new network among teams studying freshwater plankton dynamics to i) promote the development of adequate methodologies facing the challenge of ecosystem comparisons and multi-scale interactions, ii) carry out inter-ecosystem comparisons based on long-term time series obtained in lakes and reservoirs through multidisciplinary approaches coupling physics (atmosphere, water), biology and society, and iii) provide operational recommendations, based on the experience gained from the proposed research, to monitor the less studies ecosystems and try to extrapolate the conclusion to wider range of aquatic ecosystems.

Moreover, these first steps of research are necessary before suggesting all measures of conservation and recommendations for managers as well as decision makers and stakeholders.
